Every fall, Canadians hear about new COVID-19 variants, influenza forecasts, RSV activity and other respiratory viruses. How do scientists determine which trends matter and which don't?
Join Dr. Craig Jenne, PhD'05, professor of microbiology, immunology and infectious diseases at UCalgary, for a timely discussion on what researchers are watching ahead of this year's respiratory virus season.
Drawing on insights from the Jenne Lab's research into how the immune system responds to infection, Dr. Jenne will explain the science behind seasonal respiratory illnesses, what current global trends may tell us about Canada's upcoming season and how researchers study the body's earliest response to viral threats.

Dr. Jenne is a professor within the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, the Department of Critical Care Medicine at the UCalgary and holds an adjunct appointment within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. His research uses intravital microscopy to study host-pathogen interactions, the mechanisms of vaccine-induced immunity and the interplay between the inflammatory and immunothrombotic responses to bacterial and viral infection. In addition to research, Dr. Jenne is also an educator and science communicator, contributing to nearly 1500 TV, radio and print interviews for local, national, and international media on vaccines and infectious diseases.
