New UCalgary Alumni Association leaders announced
The University of Calgary Alumni Association (UCAA) has announced that William O'Yeung, BComm'91, has been appointed its new president and chair, alongside Courtney LeBlanc, BA'22, the new vice-president and vice-chair.
O’Yeung and LeBlanc succeed Dr. Kate Wong, BN’12, PhD’25, who served as vice-president of UCAA from 2021 to 2023 and as Chair from 2023 to 2024.
“It is a great honour to serve as president of the UCAA,” says O'Yeung. “Although the University of Calgary is a relatively young institution — celebrating its 60th anniversary in April 2026 — our university and its graduates have accomplished remarkable things.”
LeBlanc, responsible for governing documents, is excited to foster clarity, inclusion and systematic change though strong governance practices.
"I'm incredibly excited for us to continue collaborating with the Alumni Engagement team to support communications, events and experiences... (to) support and engage our alumni in all phases of life, and continue to bolster the awareness of the UCAA to our alumni population so they know they matter to UCalgary and have a voice representing them to the university,” says LeBlanc.
The UCAA is made up of dedicated volunteers who help advise the development and delivery of programming and services to meet the needs of the 230,000-strong UCalgary alumni body, while supporting wider university priorities.
The UCAA also advocates community engagement, connecting alumni to exclusive events such as Alumni All-Access, running Oct. 15 to 29, Alumni Career Workshops, Field Trips and maintaining the Alumni Built Business directory.
These initiatives, and more, empower alumni in their professional and personal growth, expanding their networks and sparking meaningful change in the community.
Wong reflects on her experience and the power of alumni involvement.
“I was able to witness how UCalgary alumni are changing the world,” she says. “I often say that, while UCalgary is the place to ‘start something,’ it is our alumni who build on and maintain that momentum to change their communities for the better.”
A highlight of her term was the UCAA Board’s partnership with the UCalgary Senate to start the Student Food Security Fund, in support of the Campus Food Hub, Wong adds.
O’Yeung says he is looking forward to seeing where his tenure as UCAA president leads.
“I’m excited to hear more alumni stories, share the incredible work UCalgary is doing, and help reconnect our alumni with each other and with the university,” says O’Yeung.
“As a proud UCalgary (alum), I believe that, together, we can make our university an even greater place to learn, achieve and inspire.”
Lifetime membership to the association is provided free of charge to all UCalgary graduates.
