Join us on campus for the first live-episode recording of Now Innovating: a research-to-impact series. The episode will be released as part of season seven in November 2025. 

Host Julia MacGregor will lead a panel discussion with three UCalgary alumni who are making an impact in circular plastics. 

As part of the audience, you will have an opportunity to ask questions for our panel. Join an engaging conversation focused on how these alumni are making strides in finding solutions to build a sustainable future. 

About the speakers

Dr. Rohen Prinsloo, PhD’22 (he/him)

Assistant professor, Faculty of Science, UCalgary

Dr. Rohen Prinsloo recently joined the Department of Chemistry where he is establishing an independent research program. His research explores flow chemistry, continuous crystallization, and in-situ analytics to advance chemical recycling of plastics. A UCalgary alum with both academic and industrial experience, he earned his PhD in applied physical chemistry and completed postdoctoral work at Heriot-Watt University. His interdisciplinary approach works at the intersections of chemistry, engineering, and applied sciences, to develop scalable, real-world chemical solutions.

Tammy Schwass, BA'10 (she/her)

Executive Director, Alberta Plastics Recycling Association (APRA)

At APRA — a nonprofit dedicated to advancing plastic circularity and progressing Alberta as a sustainable place to do business — Tammy connects stakeholders across the plastics value chain and leads initiatives like the Agricultural Plastics Recycling Group, a group of over 20 organizations looking for solutions to manage agricultural plastics in the province. Tammy has worked on stakeholder engagement projects for the national agricultural materials stewardship organization Cleanfarms, for Rocky View County, and for the Canadian Council for Ministers of the Environment. She holds degrees in communications and environment and management.

Julia MacGregor

Julia MacGregor (she/her) 

Senior Specialist, Office of Vice-President (Research), UCalgary

As the host of Now Innovating, Julia tells the stories of UCalgary community members who are using research to create impact. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Communications and Public Relations from Mount Royal University and has worked as a communicator in research and innovation for more than 10 years. 

About the venue

The recording will take place in Engineering Block G (ENG 207) in the Schulich School of Engineering at 444 Collegiate Blvd. N.W. (see map).
