Signing up
Eligibility, account creation and moving from your student email.
Alumni email accounts are available to graduates of a UCalgary degree-granting program. Use your student UCID and the correct graduation year when registering.
If you are about to graduate, your Application to Graduate must be approved before you can register. If you cannot confirm your eligibility, contact IT support.
Register for your alumni email account and follow the activation instructions. You can also read the account setup instructions (PDF).
The account is free. Registration confirmation is sent to your default email address. Wait one hour before opening your alumni inbox.
In most cases, your student ucalgary.ca email account is deactivated one year after the last day of your final semester. Accounts remain active for current UCalgary students and staff; staff access ends when employment ends, regardless of alumni status.
Your messages do not transfer to your alumni account. Save what you need before the student account closes:
- Export emails using Outlook Desktop (requires a personal Office licence).
- Copy or move emails using Thunderbird.
- Export OneNote notebooks.
Update other services that use your student address. Search your inbox for “account”, “registration”, “signup” or “confirmation” to help find them.
Retiring unused accounts reduces security and administration risks and conserves server space.
Access and login
Signing in, finding the login page and recovering access.
Open your alumni email inbox and sign in with your alumni account. If you have just registered, wait one hour before signing in.
Sign in at least once each year to keep your account active. Inactive accounts will be deleted.
Check that you are using your alumni email account details. If you have just registered, allow one hour for the account to become available.
Use UCalgary Password Management to recover your account or get help with multi-factor authentication. If you still need help, email it@ucalgary.ca or call 403.210.9300.
Visit UCalgary Password Management and choose the option to recover your account. Follow the prompts to reset your password.
If you cannot complete the recovery process, contact IT support.
Managing your email
Automatic replies, forwarding and ongoing account support.
Follow the UCalgary instructions for automatic replies.
If your student email account is being retired, set up a reply while you still have access so senders know how to reach you at your new address.
See Microsoft’s instructions for automatic forwarding in Outlook. Use the guidance for Outlook on the web.
If forwarding is unavailable in your account, contact IT support for help. Forwarding does not transfer messages already stored in your student account.
Contact UService IT support at it@ucalgary.ca or 403.210.9300 for account or email help.
Your alumni account provides Office 365 email and access to the My UCalgary portal and library resources. Use My UCalgary to update your alumni profile and access student records, transcripts and financial information.
