Are you looking for a fun adventure before the summer ends? Join UCalgary Alumni at the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary, founded by UCalgary alum Georgina De Caigny, BSc (Eng)’11.
The field trip includes a 30-minute intro tour. This tour offers a "front row" viewing experience of the wolfdogs and the opportunity to photograph them without visual barriers. You will also have full access to your very own wolfdog expert!
As an alumni-exclusive bonus, you will have the opportunity to hear from Georgina about her journey from studying engineering to dedicating her life to rehoming and rehabilitating these incredible animals.
We will be offering two tours of the sanctuary — located about 30 minutes northwest of Calgary — at a discounted price exclusive to UCalgary alumni and their families.

Intro Tours: 10:15 a.m. OR 10:45 a.m.
UCalgary Alumni Exclusive Talk with Founder, Georgina De Caigny, BSc (Eng)’11: 11:45 a.m.
Please note that participants for this tour must be 10 years of age or older; alumni may purchase a maximum of four tickets while supplies last.
Transportation to and from the sanctuary is not included.
When you register, you will be asked to choose the tour time that works best for you. The field trip will take approximately two hours, including the tour, Georgina’s talk, and free time to explore the sanctuary.
The intro tour and sanctuary walk are accessible. Service dogs are not allowed on the site as they would negatively impact the well-being of the wolfdogs.

Georgina De Caigny, BSc (Eng)’11 (she/her)
Growing up near the Stoney Reserve, Georgina was heavily involved in rescuing and rehabilitating stray dogs in her youth. She went on to graduate from UCalgary with a civil engineering degree — but, after working at a sled dog kennel near Canmore that housed several wolfdogs, and then adopting her own in 2009, she knew she wanted to pursue her passion for wolfdog rescue.
In 2011, she started Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary on a small property near Canmore with the goal of creating a safe haven for displaced wolfdogs and stand up against the myths surrounding wolfdogs. Then, in 2014, she was able to move her organization to a 160-acre plot just outside of Cochrane where she can now house more rescued wolfdogs and invites people to tour the Sanctuary.
About Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary
The ultimate goal of the sanctuary is to create widespread wolfdog awareness and advocacy, as well as act as a place for wolfdogs in need of rescue to call home and be truly happy and care-free. It welcomes visitors to come and experience wolfdogs in person to learn about their unique nature, how we can reduce backyard breeding of these animals, and the connected importance of wolf conservation. The sanctuary currently has a total of 43 permanent wolfdogs and aspires to become a resource for the conservation of wolves in the wild.
