Regional communities

Have an idea for a group? You can apply to start a new community or have an existing group recognized by the UCalgary Alumni Association.

Recognized communities receive benefits including access to funding, alumni swag and opportunities such as the Alumni Leadership Summit.

Before applying, check the existing communities. If a similar group exists, you’ll be encouraged to join it.

Prepare your application

Have the following information ready:

• Your proposed community name, a brief description and where it will operate.
• Any relevant group history and the benefits it will offer UCalgary alumni.
• Proposed events or initiatives and any active group social media links.
• Names and contact details for the group leads.
• A mission statement consistent with the UCalgary Alumni Association’s mission and at least one of the focus areas below.

• Pride, spirit and tradition
• Personal development
• Strengthening the UCalgary alumni network

What happens after you apply

The Affinity Communities Committee reviews applications and recommends groups for approval to the UCalgary Alumni Association Board of Directors. You’ll be notified of your submission’s status within six to eight weeks.

If approved, your group lead will attend a brief orientation with the Alumni Engagement team covering policies, procedures, resources and ongoing support.

Community leaders can access tools for running a group, planning events, managing finances, fundraising and communicating with members.
