Did you know that tucked inside the Life Sciences Innovation Hub, there’s a lab where ideas about flight, space and the future actually lift off?
In partnership with UCalgary, Innovate Calgary has carved out a one-of-a-kind space for dreaming, designing and doing. It’s Alberta’s only dedicated collaboration hub for aerospace research and startup creation — nestled right in the heart Quantum City (yes, it sounds like the title of a Marvel movie, and yes, it’s real).
And here's the part you can be part of: step inside for a guided tour from Alex Guo — the prototyping lab manager (a.k.a., the guy who knows exactly what all those mysterious machines do) — as he shows off the lab’s tools and answers your questions, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll catch a glimpse of the future being built.
After the lab tour, we’ll meet Mac Hunik and Dr. Colin Hill, PhD — our two Aerospace Accelerator Fellows — who will share the companies they are building and the tech they are developing.
This isn’t your average lab tour. This is aerospace, up close.
About the speakers

Alex Guo, BSc (Eng)’23 (he/him)
Prototyping Lab Manager, Aerospace Innovation Hub
As the lab manager for the Aerospace Innovation Hub, Alex is responsible for the maintenance, calibration and repair of rapid prototyping tools, as well as the training of hub members on equipment usage and overall lab operations.

Dr. Colin Hill, BSc (Eng)’17, PhD’22 (he/him)
Director, Think Solutions Engineering
Colin consults on a variety of engineering problems serving various industries including aerospace and defense, energy transition, and oil and gas. He has experience leading research and developments efforts ranging from first-principles analysis to computational fluid dynamics, to prototype development and experimental design. His small team of highly motivated engineers at Think Solutions Engineering tackle difficult problems related to all aspects of thermal-fluids engineering.

Mac Hunik (he/him)
Mac is a graduate of SAIT's Mechanical Engineering Technology program and has a passion for solving problems using an outside-the-box approach. He is an expert in competitive robotics, with a professional background in avionics and aerial survey, having flown thousands of hours of survey work in traditional aircraft. He builds and flies sub-250g First Person View drones for fun, pushing the boundaries of mechanical design and 3D printing.
