Back by popular demand! Join UCalgary Alumni at the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary, owned and operated by Georgina De Caigny, BSc (Eng)’11.
You’ll get to tour this non-profit sanctuary dedicated to driving awareness and education surrounding wolfdog ownership, as well as meet a wolfdog and hear from Georgina herself about how she went from studying engineering to dedicating her life to rehoming and rehabilitating these incredible animals.
We will be offering two tours of the sanctuary — located about 30 minutes northwest of Calgary, near Cochrane — at a discounted price exclusive to UCalgary alumni and their families.
Please note that the sanctuary is only open to those who are 6 years of age and over, and transportation to and from the sanctuary is not included. When you register, you will be asked to choose the tour time that works best for you. The field trip will take approximately two hours.
Tours: Morning (11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) | Afternoon (2:30 to 4:30 p.m.)
Cost: Youth (6 to 11 years old): $8 + GST | Adults (12+): $13 + GST

About Georgina De Caigny (she/her)
Georgina De Caigny, BSc (Eng)’11, was heavily involved in rescuing and rehabilitating stray dogs in her youth. In 2009, she adopted Kuna, her first wolfdog, which opened her eyes to the challenges of owning such an animal, and how incredibly unique, amazing and compassionate they are. She started Yamnuska on a small property near Canmore in 2011, and in 2014 was able to move her organization to a 160-acre plot just west of Cochrane where she can now house even more rescued wolfdogs.
About Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary
The ultimate goal of the sanctuary is to create widespread wolfdog awareness and advocacy, as well as act as a place for wolfdogs in need of rescue to call home and be truly happy and care-free. It welcomes visitors to come and experience wolfdogs in person to learn about their unique nature, how we can reduce backyard breeding of these animals, and the connected importance of wolf conservation. The sanctuary currently has a total of 43 permanent wolfdogs and aspires to become a resource for the conservation of wolves in the wild.
