Field Trip: Behind the Scenes Access to the Human Performance Lab

Alumni All-Access | Oct. 21, 2023

Kinesiology Complex, UCalgary Main Campus

Did you know that UCalgary’s Faculty of Kinesiology is the No. 1 sport-science school in North America?

Bring your family or fellow alumni to get an exclusive tour of the Human Performance Lab (HPL).

The HPL is a multidisciplinary centre that produces groundbreaking research to push the boundaries of knowledge and innovation and shape the future of the kinesiology field.

The lab is equipped with high-tech and custom-made equipment to conduct research in anatomy, biology, biomechanics, motor control and physiology.

During the tour, you’ll get to learn about different research topics, from things like the impact of food in facilitating a healthy gut microbiome to robotic gait training to improve bone health in youth with cerebral palsy, or examining the role of physical activity and exercise in healthy growth and aging to learning what your sweat can tell you about stress levels.

During the tour, you’ll spend about 15 minutes at various stations, with the opportunity to view a demonstration, ask questions of the researchers and perhaps even participate in a demonstration yourself!

Join us to explore the place where innovations in everything — from your favourite running shoes to motion capture and wearable technology — are developed!

Tour: 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

This event has now sold out. Thank you for your interest!

Please note that this field trip is recommended for individuals aged 12 and older. You will be standing for the duration of the tour, so please wear comfy shoes. All spaces are wheelchair accessible. We will provide a parking code so that you may park for free to attend this event.
