Embracing Neurodiversity: Understanding ADHD in the Workplace

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is growing in awareness in numerous populations. This presentation, led by clinical professor Dr. Gurdeep Parhar, MD, will offer an insightful exploration into ADHD and its impact within professional environments. 

Challenging common misconceptions, Dr. Parhar highlights the complex realities of ADHD and its often-overlooked strengths, such as creativity, adaptability and problem-solving. 

Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how ADHD may present in the workplace and learn evidence-based strategies to foster a more inclusive and supportive organizational culture.

This session is essential for leaders, HR professionals and anyone committed to advancing equity through neurodiversity.   

About the speaker

Dr. Gurdeep Parhar

Dr. Gurdeep Parhar, MD’92 (he/him)

Clinical professor, University of British Columbia and co-founder of Adult ADHD Centre and Adult Autism Centre

Dr. Gurdeep Parhar has served as the acting dean, executive associate dean, associate dean and co-acting department head at UBC’s Faculty of Medicine. For more than 30 years, his clinical practice has focused on the health of patients with visible and invisible disabilities. His teaching and research are in the areas of professionalism, equity, cultural safety, psychosocial aspects of health care and medical disability. His ADHD research has been published nationally and internationally. Dr. Parhar has been recognized for his clinical, academic and advocacy work with numerous provincial and national awards.

Dr. Emma Climie, MSc’08, PhD’12

Associate Professor, Werklund School of Education, UCalgary

Dr. Emma A. Climie is a registered psychologist, teaches in the School and Applied Child Psychology program in the Werklund School of Education and leads the Strengths in ADHD research lab. With over 15 years of experience, her work focuses on strengths-based approaches, emotion regulation, stigma and the well-being of individuals with ADHD. She holds the Carlson Family Research Award in ADHD and leads multiple funded projects. Dr. Climie contributes to national research, advocacy, and conference planning, bringing strong academic, clinical, and governance expertise to the ADHD field.
