"Receiving the Chancellor's Scholarship means the world to me. It allows me to focus on an area of study that I'm passionate about without having to worry about finances."

Emma Sturm

Emma Sturm

Emma Sturm grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan where she attended Balfour Collegiate high school. While there, she achieved the highest grade point average in grades nine through twelve, and was awarded the prestigious Governor General’s Academic Medal upon graduation.

Due to her long-standing interest in the film industry, she is currently working towards a film studies minor at the University of Calgary. She developed an interest in sociology after she studied two courses in this subject her first year, and is proud that it is now her major (with a concentration in criminology, deviance, and social control). Emma hopes to use this degree to work within the field of prison reform, advocacy, or as a human rights officer. She may also choose to pursue her dream of directing films that surround topics of social justice.

"I'm incredibly grateful to have been chosen for such a prestigious award and the opportunities it gives me in terms of my education and career."

Scarlett High School where she received the 2018 ATB Loran Provincial Award, was a part of the 2018 AIBF Honour Band, and successfully completed the DELF B2 exam.

Some of Jaime’s long-term goals include mastering French, publishing a short story collection and is interested in one day working overseas, for an international organization like the UN.

"This scholarship is one of those opportunities that impacts your whole life. Receiving the Chancellor's Scholarship means that it is feasible for me to do a study year abroad, something I've always wanted to do. I am very motivated to continue to be deserving of this scholarship!"
