Getting to Know your Course Outline

Spend that first week of classes going over your course outlines and filling all important dates into your calendar. The more you are able to see the overlapping deadlines in your schedule, the more prepared you can be to start projects early to avoid the bottle neck.

Pro tip – don’t just put due dates in your calendar, plan start dates as well!

Assignment Tracker

As university students, you have a greater responsibility to keep track of due dates than you might have in high school. The library’s Assignment Tracker is an excellent tool to help you stay on top of different written assignments. The assignment tracker lets you plan based on the type of assignment you are doing, and generates a to-do list and short term deadlines to make sure you have plenty of time left over to review. Goodbye forever, all-night editing sessions!

Reading Tracker

Odds are, you have a lot of reading to do this semester. While we often just grab a textbook and start reading, it can also be helpful to spend some time planning how and what you’re reading. We made this nifty Reading Plan worksheet to help you consider when and where you read best, how you’ll take notes, and when to step away and give your eyes a bit of a break!

Grade Tracker

Lastly, It’s important to check in on your progress and performance on assessments are multiple points in the semester. Since your assessments may take place on D2L, or different platforms like WebWork, it’s important to have a way of collecting all of that information in one place. Consider using our Grade Tracker tipsheet to calculate your running grade and determine what your final goal grade should realistically be!

Pro tip – this is where getting to know your course outline comes in! You’ll need to refer back to it for your course grading scale, and to determine what each assessment is worth!
