Two Eyes High postdoctoral fellows announced for Faculty of Nursing

We welcome Dr. Catriona Hippman (PhD) and Dr. Fay Strohschein (PhD)

Two Eyes High postdoctoral fellows for the faculty were announced in UToday on Jan. 22, 2021: Dr. Catriona Hippman (PhD) and Dr. Fay Strohschein (PhD).

Hippman, currently a Research Fellow at BC Children's Hospital with the Reproductive and Infant Psychiatry programs, will work with Dr. Dawn Kingston. Her fellowship work aims - through parallel lines of both qualitative and quantitative inquiry into Canadian and international experiences - to elucidate strategies best suited to the Canadian context for the care of women experiencing acute postpartum mental illness.

Strohschein will work with Dean Sandra Davidson: her postdoctoral program focuses on aligning health-care delivery with the needs and concerns of older Albertans with cancer and their caregivers. Both postdocs will present to the faculty on Wednesday, Feb. 24 beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Nursing postdoc named inaugural Associated Medical Services (AMS) Fellow

Another Faculty of Nursing postdoctoral scholar Dr. Lyndsay MacKay, RN, MN, PhD, is one of 11 researchers from across Canada to be named an inaugural 2020 Associated Medical Services (AMS) Fellow in an emerging field of study - artificial intelligence and compassion. The fellows will advance innovation in their communities and steward technological changes in healthcare.

Dr. Mackay will lead a team developing artificial intelligence software that rapidly codes parent-child interactions called Enabling Quality Interactions among Parents (EQUIP), a practice that is currently time-consuming and costly. EQUIP will increase the spread of parent-child interventions within clinical practices and increase productivity of child health research. The project supports the ATTACH study led by Dr. Nicole Letourneau to test innovative interventions to support positive parenting with high-risk mothers and secure maternal-infant attachment. Letourneau holds the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation Chair in Parent-Infant Mental Health.
