UCalgary is proud to be a partner of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. Much more than a 10-day-long celebration with midway rides and bucking broncos, the Calgary Stampede is a gathering place that hosts, educates, and entertains visitors from around the world. The purpose is to preserve and celebrate western heritage, culture, and community spirit.

The long-standing partnership between UCalgary and the Calgary Stampede is an example of the university’s Eyes High commitment to integrate with the community.

Here’s how you can be a part of UCalgary activities being planned for Stampede:

President’s Stampede Barbecue
Thursday, July 5, 2018
Taylor Family Digital Library Quadrangle  11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

President Elizabeth Cannon invites you to wrangle up your friends for the annual President's Stampede Barbecue.

Indulge in a delicious lunch of beef on a bun with all the fixin's. Dust off your boots, enjoy the lively sounds of country music and join the line dancing demonstration.

Bring a donation for the SU Food Bank and spare change for the United Way raffle. Come early for this popular event, as only the first 1,500 guests will be served.

Calgary Stampede Parade
Friday, July 6 — Downtown Calgary    9:00 to 11:30 a.m.

The University of Calgary’s float will be proudly displayed in the midst of our community during the popular Calgary Stampede Parade in the city’s downtown core. This year’s parade entry encourages all participants from the community to ask, "What’s Your Dream?”.

Bring your family, cheer loudly and show your university pride. Take photos of our float and share on social media using #ucalgary.

This year, the university held a social media contest that students could enter to lead the parade float. Winners of the student “dreams” contest, and leading the UCalgary parade, will be Monica Uppal, (Haskayne School of Business), Amira Kalifa, (Cumming School of Medicine) and Graham Doerksen  (Schulich School of Engineering).

Enjoy the lively sounds of country music and join the line dancing demonstration at the President’s Stampede Barbecue.

Vet Med at Stampede
Students from the Veterinary Medicine program host an interactive booth every day at the Stampede, located in the Country Critters area of the Agriculture Barn. They have hands-on activities and demonstrations for the public, including an opportunity to palpate a cow simulator model — a fan favourite.
