Video: How does COVID-19 affect children?
In March 202l, very little was known about how COVID-19 would affect children, who was at risk for severe outcomes, and what treatment options would be the most effective. Dr. Stephen Freedman, MD, professor in the Cumming School of Medicine, has spent the last two years working on a global study of children who have contracted COVID-19, and how the illness affects their health for the 90 days following their diagnosis. Freedman was recognized for his work on this project with a Peak Scholars: COVID-19 Innovation Excellence award in 2021.
Stephen Freedman is a professor in the departments of Paediatrics and Emergency Medicine and the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation Professor in Child Health and Wellness. He is a member of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute and the O’Brien Institute of Public Health in the CSM.
